Traveling Lantern
Traveling Lantern is a year-round company that has been in business since 1985. We perform regularly for New York Public Library and New York Public Schools, and the National Theatre in Washington, D.C. We wrote and performed the children’s show at Yosemite for 10 years. We perform for schools and libraries in 12 states.
All shows are interactive theater performances that involve the audience directly in the story and are geared for children from kindergarten to 8th grade and their families. We have a constantly rotating repertoire of 30 shows, including histories, mysteries, fantasies, biographies, classics and original works, with Q&A.
We also have 8 virtual performances available anywhere/anytime. Please visit our website for details.
The Story of Ebenezer Scrooge recounts the classic tale of a miser’s redemption. Ebenezer Scrooge is a nasty, mean, snarling old geezer with no care for anything other than his money. His one and only friend visits him as a ghost and starts him on a journey that melts his icy heart and teaches him the joys of caring for and giving to others. Available: October-December
In The Industrious Mr. Franklin, meet the intrepid inventor, quipping author, productive scientist, and founding father: Mr. Benjamin Franklin. You’ll travel with him, meet his friends, help him in his work, and learn all about the courageous and diligent man who tamed electricity with a kite and a key. Available: October-December
The Ribbles Build a Residence details the struggles of Mr. and Mrs. Ribble - newly wedded insects who have no place to live and little Ribblyroos on the way. With the help of a bird architect and a construction worker ant they learn about design, form and function. The audience helps them complete their beautiful dream home. Available: February - May
In The Sword and the Stone, young Wart stumbles upon an unusual friend: a memorable and beloved old sorcerer names Merlin. With Merlin’s guidance, he is astonished to discover that he is the only person in the kingdom who can pull an embedded sword from its massive stone pedestal: The legendary blade, Excalibur.
