Abraham Lincoln Presentations

John Voehl is a nationally recognized Abraham Lincoln presenter and historian, having shared 1,260 living history experiences in 43 states and 400 schools. He has presented at every grade level, most often in elementary and middle schools. He is a life member of the Association of Lincoln Presenters and Speaker for the Colorado Endowment for the Humanities Chautauqua. Santa Barbara County-grown, he now lives in Denver and visits here for several months each school year in the fall and spring.

In The Emancipation Proclamation, learn of Lincoln’s promise, purpose and timing, the bloodiest day in U.S. history that allowed the Proclamation’s public release, how he prepared the country, his New Year’s Day 1863 signature and its reception in Boston. (Grades 5–12)

In Children’s Stories, Abe shares stories from his childhood, fun with other children in Springfield, IL., and his children’s antics at the White House. These funny stories teach valuable morals. (Grades K–2)

In Log Cabin to White House, Abe shares stories about his education in log cabin schools, hunger for learning, life- long learning, and riddles. He shares his 1860 Presidential election highlights with trip to the White House, growing his first beard, and slavery. (Grades 3– 12)

Each 30-minute presentation includes: display table items, explanatory maps, question-and-answer segment and photos. Total time span is an hour or more.
