BOXTALES Theatre Company

BOXTALES Theatre Company, serving Santa Barbara County schools since 1994, is nationally recognized for highly energetic, interactive, and curriculum-oriented presentations of world mythology and folklore. BOXTALES mission is to bring myths and folktales from around the world to young audiences using masks, movement, music, and storytelling. Our shows and assemblies fire imaginations, inspire creativity, strengthen cultural pride, encourage tolerance, and engage young people in the excitement and immediacy of live performance. All BOXTALES shows address the California Department of Education content standards.

Wisdom of the Elders- Life Lessons From Around the World - This program allows students to experience three stories rooted in four different cultures (Inuit, Jewish, African) with an emphasis on evidence-based social-emotional learning (SEL)

Stand UP Stories! Multicultural Tales to Live By - This show features a collection of multicultural folktales and myths which provide the listener with valuable messages and cultural wisdom they can use to live by. The stories include Phaeton (Greece), The Boy Who Fed Eagles (Alaska), The Stonecutter (Japan), and The Lion’s Whiskers (Ethiopia).

Leyendas de Duende, Magical Tales of Latin America, is a bilingual show that explores stories, myths, and folklore from Mexico, Central and South Americas as well as Afro-Cuban and Afro-Brazilian rhythms and songs. Perfect for El Día de los Muertos.

Iron John-A Brothers Grimm Tale is a dynamic production based on a Brothers Grimm fairy tale about a youth who uses a golden key to open up the vital creativity needed for the trials of life. It is a parable of a young man’s trek into adulthood through meaningful rites of passage.

Capacity Limit is 300 per assembly.

Boxtales offers an In-School Theater Residency workshop with or without a performance for Santa Barbara area schools.
