Resident Teaching Artist Opportunity for TK-12 Education
What is a Teaching Artist? A Teaching Artist conducts workshops in visual or performing art disciplines in TK -12 schools
Status: Part-time work, Independent Contractor
Start Date: Placements available throughout the year, including summer
Compensation: $28+ per workshop, fee negotiable
Schedule: Set your own schedule as long as you can fulfill the contract
Area: Opportunities throughout Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, and Ventura Counties
Description
Teaching artists will conduct weekly art classes in their preferred discipline at TK-12 school classrooms across Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, and Ventura counties, including many with Title I status. Flexibility and creativity are essential for this role due to the nature of collaborating with classroom teachers and school staff during the designated time for arts education.
Key features of this role include flexible scheduling during school hours, opportunities for after-school and summer work at a higher pay rate, a dedicated school liaison/program associate to help you manage your contract, and fulfilling work that promotes equitable access to arts education for the youth of Southern California.

Required for this role:
Two years working with youth (elementary and middle school). Also looking for teachers with varied experience TK-12.
An imaginative approach to teaching visual and/or performing arts to students
The ability to manage a classroom of up to 30 students
Reliable transportation
Ability to communicate through email, texts, and phone calls
TB clearance and Live Scan certification processed specifically through the Santa Barbara County Education Office
Preferred for this role:
Experience working with socio-economically disadvantaged communities and/or Title I schools
Bilingual or multilingual
Degree from an accredited institution or education in progress
Knowledge and experience in teaching the current California Arts Standards
Intergrating multicultural programming
Promoting a classroom environment celebrating diversity, equity, and inclusivity
