What is a Teaching Artist? A Teaching Artist conducts workshops in visual or performing art disciplines in TK - 12 schools
Status: Part-time work, Independent Contractor
Start Date: Placements available throughout the year
Compensation: $28+ per workshop, fee negotiable.
Schedule: Set your own schedule as long as you can fulfill the contract
Area: Opportunities throughout Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, and Ventura Counties
Description
Teaching artists will lead weekly art classes in their preferred discipline in TK-12 school classrooms throughout San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Ventura counties, many with Title I status. Flexibility and creativity are central to this position due to the nature of working with classroom teachers during the allotted time for arts education.
Highlights of this job include flexible scheduling during school hours, the possibility of after-school and summer work at a higher pay rate, a dedicated school liaison/program associate to assist you in managing your contract, and rewarding work in bringing equitable access to arts education to the youth of Southern California.

Requirements
Two years working with youth (elementary and middle school). Also looking for teachers with varied experience TK-12.
An imaginative approach to teaching visual and/or performing arts to students
The ability to manage a classroom of up to 30 students
Reliable transportation
Knowledge of Google Drive
Live Scan certification and TB clearance done specifically through the Santa Barbara County Education Office
Preferred
Experience working with socio-economically disadvantaged communities and/or Title I schools.
Bilingual or multilingual
Degree from an accredited institution or in progress
Familiarity with and experience teaching current California Arts Standards
Preference with background teaching multicultural programming
Priority for diversity, equity, and inclusivity
